Welcome to the BAS Associates team page. Below are short bio’s, highlighting the experience and quality which we have. You will be dealing with most of the team during your journey with us, and with different skillsets, we cover the majority of the needs of your business and personal accounting needs in house. Supporting us there are a number of specialists enabling the service we give you to be professional, accurate an on target with our pricing. We are thoroughly geared up for digital and cloud accounting solutions, and are up to date with all the necessary training in our fields.

Dawn Smith ACMA CGMA BA (Hons) ICPA – Managing Director

The BAS Associates team is lead by Dawn, who is Managing Director and founder of BAS Associates.

Dawn began her involvement with small business in 1992 running a small trade printing company with her husband. During this time she gained her degree in Business Studies and after spotting a gap in the market for local, affordable accountancy and business services she decided to move in to the accounting world. Originally set-up as part of a well-known accountancy franchise, BAS soon outgrew them and has been trading independently since 2004.

Achieving her ACMA and GCMA qualifications in 2006, Dawn has steadily grown the business taking on new team members in 2008 (Jacqueline), 2010 (Brett), 2015 (Charlotte) and 2018 (Ellie).

Dawn has recently qualified to be our specialist in Wills and Probate and will help in these areas.

Much of Dawn’s spare time is spent relaxing and enjoying time with her grandchildren. She also spends time with the family, and keeps up-to-date with the latest happenings on a variety of crime dramas.

Brett Smith ACCA ATT BSc (Hons)

Brett joined BAS in April 2010 as a junior accountant, having previously worked in retail from 2004 to 2008, followed by two years at Kubota as a Sales and Distribution Co-Ordinator. Since joining Brett has qualified as a taxation technician (2012) and chartered certified accountant (2014) and been awarded a degree in Applied Accounting (2015).

Brett’s main duties revolve around bookkeeping and the preparation of VAT returns, accounts and self-assessment tax returns for all clients.

Due to the growth of the business and personal circumstances Brett opened an office for BAS in the Holbury / New Forest area in June 2015. Brett splits his time between both offices so whilst looking after existing clients he is looking to expand the business on the south coast. Brett spends a lot of his free time with his Wife and Daughter and also enjoys anything football related.

Sian Smith Business Development BAS Associates

Sian Smith - Business Development Leader

Sian officially joined BAS in late 2020, however, has always been well connected to the business and the BAS team (not to mention she’s part of the family…literally!).

Having worked in the corporate sector, mainly within the Oil Industry, for over 12 years and more recently having worked closer with SME’s, Sian brings with her a wealth of business development experience.

Focused on profitable growth and business longevity, Sian works 121 with business owners to grow businesses in a structured and systematic way.

Sian’s two young children are the main source of her high motivation levels and her desire to deliver results for the clients she works with.

Jacqueline Smith – Accounting Technician

Jacqueline began her career with BAS Associates in October 2008, making her the second longest serving member of the BAS Associates team. Prior to that she had three years’ experience working for IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group) in the financial reporting department.

She is AAT qualified achieving her latest qualification in the late 90’s. Her main role at BAS currently revolves around payroll which ranges from creating payslips for our payroll clients to resolving any client queries and liaising with HMRC on all things payroll related. In addition to this Jacqui also assists with general bookkeeping, preparing clients quarterly VAT returns, year-end accounts and self-assessment/partnership tax returns.

Jacqui currently works part-time during school hours as she has two school-aged children. Much of her spare time is spent with her family and friends and as an avid reader a book (or Kindle) is never far away.

Ellie Bogan – Accounts Assistant

Ellie Joined us in September 2018, has good experience in many parts of accountancy, having worked in business since leaving school, mainly in an administrative role but completed her AAT qualification a few years ago and took on a more accounts based role. This led to branching out and carrying out bookkeeping and accounts for a variety of other clients particularly VAT returns.

Ellie will have responsibilities for all levels of accountancy within BAS Associates, from bookkeeping through VAT to Payroll.

Living locally, outside of work she tries to spend time exercising and enjoys watching sport, as well as all the necessary responsibilities of family life.

Bev Reekes

I am Bev and I have been working in accountancy for over 20 years. I specialise in accounts preparation, VAT and bookkeeping. With a Mathematics degree and a senior management background in Blue Chip businesses, I love using my commercial knowledge and analytical mind to assist clients in all aspects of their accounts. I am looking forward to using and developing my experience by joining the expanding BAS team.

Kim Woolford

Hi, I am Kim and I have been working as an administrator within the accountancy industry for more than 20 years. It’s my job to make sure the office runs smoothly and that client records are booked in and out with care. I am looking forward to providing an efficient service and working with my new colleagues within the BAS Team.

Hugo Micoud - Accounts Assistant

Hugo has recently started as an apprentice in our Northchurch office. Living locally with his parents, he is Hertfordshire born and bred.

An accomplished sportsman, he captained his school football team and won the coveted School Sportsman of the Year award in 2019.

‘This is an ideal career-path for me’, says Hugo, ‘as I have good problem-solving skills and achieved excellent maths grades at school’. We have high hopes for him at BAS Associates and his goal is to become a successful Certified Accountant in years to come.

Lauren Avis

Lauren joined the team in September 2021, having worked in an accountancy practice since finishing her A-Levels. She is a Level 4 Qualified Accountant, and is currently studying towards her Level 7 to become a fully Chartered Accountant. Outside of work, Lauren is a keen swimmer, competing at regional level in the past. Spending time with family and friends is also very important to Lauren. She has always loved working with numbers and gets a real kick out of helping clients with their finances. She was very excited to join the BAS team and is looking forward to learning and developing her skills further

Thamil Jeyavinthan - Bookkeeper

Thamil has been working in the accountancy industry since graduating from the university in 2017. she has experience in bookkeeping and VAT returns and her expected study route is towards finalising her ACA certification, currently having completed part of the course. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and plays badminton with her friends during the weekend. “I am looking forward to developing my skills by joining the team.”
