Welcome to the BAS Associates team page. Below are short bio’s, highlighting the experience and quality which we have. You will be dealing with most of the team during your journey with us, and with different skillsets, we cover the majority of the needs of your business and personal accounting needs in house. Supporting us there are a number of specialists enabling the service we give you to be professional, accurate an on target with our pricing. We are thoroughly geared up for digital and cloud accounting solutions, and are up to date with all the necessary training in our fields.

Dawn Smith ACMA GCMA BA (Hons) ICPA – Managing Director

The BAS Associates team is lead by Dawn, who is Managing Director and founder of BAS Associates.

Dawn began her involvement with small business in 1992 running a small trade printing company with her husband. During this time she gained her degree in Business Studies and after spotting a gap in the market for local, affordable accountancy and business services she decided to move in to the accounting world. Originally set-up as part of a well-known accountancy franchise, BAS soon outgrew them and has been trading independently since 2004.

Achieving her ACMA and GCMA qualifications in 2006, Dawn has steadily grown the business taking on new staff in 2008 (Jacqueline), 2010 (Brett) and 2015 (Charlotte).

Much of Dawn’s spare time is spent relaxing and enjoying time with her grandchildren. She also spends time with the family (and company) dog, Fidget, and keeps up-to-date with the latest happenings on a variety of crime dramas.

Brett Smith ACCA ATT BSc (Hons)

Brett joined BAS in April 2010 as a junior accountant, having previously worked in retail from 2004 to 2008, followed by two years at Kubota as a Sales and Distribution Co-Ordinator. Since joining Brett has qualified as a taxation technician (2012) and chartered certified accountant (2014) and been awarded a degree in Applied Accounting (2015).

Brett’s main duties revolve around bookkeeping and the preparation of VAT returns, accounts and self-assessment tax returns for all clients.

Due to the growth of the business and personal circumstances Brett opened an office for BAS in the Southampton/New Forest area in June 2015. Brett splits his time between both offices so whilst looking after existing clients he is looking to expand the business on the south coast. Brett spends a lot of his free time with his Wife and Daughter and also enjoys anything football related.

Jacqueline Smith – Accounting Technician

Jacqueline began her career with BAS Associates in October 2008, making her the second longest serving member of the BAS Associates team. Prior to that she had three years’ experience working for IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group) in the financial reporting department.

She is AAT qualified achieving her latest qualification in the late 90’s. Her main role at BAS currently revolves around payroll which ranges from creating payslips for our payroll clients to resolving any client queries and liaising with HMRC on all things payroll related. In addition to this Jacqui also assists with general bookkeeping, preparing clients quarterly VAT returns, year-end accounts and self-assessment/partnership tax returns.

Jacqui currently works part-time during school hours as she has two school-aged children. Much of her spare time is spent with her family and friends and as an avid reader a book (or Kindle) is never far away.

Charlotte Bridson – Office Administrator

The newest member of the BAS Associates team, Charlotte began her career with BAS Associates in January 2015. Charlotte’s current job title at BAS is Office Administrator and as such she is responsible for various administrative duties ranging from managing office equipment and supplies to bookkeeping. She is responsible for answering all telephone calls and general emails making her your first point of contact. Charlotte also assists the rest of the team with various tasks relating to bookkeeping, VAT returns and sometimes payroll.

Alongside her work at BAS she has completed a Business and Administration Level 2 Apprenticeship qualification with Bucks Adult Learning, and is now working on an AAT Apprenticeship with BPP Learning. In her spare time she enjoys reading books and decorating her first home with her Fiance.

Roger Smith – Business Support

Business support is covered by Roger, who has been involved with small businesses for over three decades. “It seems like a lifetime…’, quips Roger, whose sense of humour and relaxed demeanour fits in with the style of BAS Associates, and adds ‘but the experience I’ve gained is invaluable.’ The growing Northchurch accountant offers support to businesses locally as well as Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Chesham.

Specialising in business plans, growth strategies, business startup advice and a complete business support package, Roger will help your business develop and grow to the level you choose, whether it’s for succession planning, selling the business or just enjoying the fruits of your labour.
